The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review technology will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Athletes are granted the option to question certain decisions from the official, following the protocol currently in place at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential interference end of a point.
Notably, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can request.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
