The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a major honors show approaches, one notices a clamor to include fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
